Simple Stitchery available on Amazon… and some blackwork

I’m pleased to be able to let you know that “Simple Stitchery: A Little Embroidery Primer” is now available to purchase from Amazon as a “proper” printed book.

It’s available worldwide – but I thought these would probably be the two links that people would most want.  I’m afraid the printed version can’t be free, but don’t worry, I have absolutely no plans to charge for the e-book – it’s much nicer to be able to give it away to like-minded folk.  If you haven’t already downloaded it you’ll find the link for the free e-book in the right-hand sidebar.

Being me, I’m already moving onto the next project – I just love having something new in my hoop!  The May issue of the Bustle & Sew Magazine is all finished and put to bed (more about that in another post), and this is the beginning of (I hope) a new project for the June issue….

Blackwork Butterfly wip

I haven’t stitched blackwork for many years – but I keep seeing butterflies in all the interiors magazines this spring and thought I’d  like to create my own blackwork version for Bustle & Sew.  So, armed only with a pencil and a very old copy of “Needlework and Crafts” I have sketched out and begun to stitch my butterfly.  I’m really quite enjoying the discipline of working in monochrome, and even stitching on even weave fabric!

If all goes well the pattern will be in the June issue of the magazine – as part of a patchwork cushion – I think lime green will make a lovely contrast to the black and white.  I’ll keep you posted how it’s going.

Blackwork is one of my favourite things to do. I love the way straight lines form wonderful patterns.

*Love* your blackwork butterfly. I find one color stitching very relaxing. I have a blackwork bird I want to start. I am confused about how to layout the pattern on the evenweave so that the pattern fill looks best. I hope you are able to share your project!

I have admired black work but haven’t yet given it a try – I can’t wait for the next issue of Bustle & Sew so I can have a go! Chrissie x
