Description
February is the month when nature begins to wake from its winter sleep. There are snowdrops in our
garden now and the sharp green spikes of daffodils and other spring bulbs are an inch or two above
ground. The birds that visit our feeders come now in pairs, and I am reminded of the old tradition that
Valentine’s Day is the day that they choose their mates – though it will be a while yet before they begin
their families.
This month’s issue reflects the changing season, with lots of early spring goodies inside – and one of my favourite projects for some time – the two little Rama Llama Llamas – sing-along anyone? We also have my final winter project, a hot water bottle cosy, for though the days are longer now the nights are still chilly and a hot water bottle is very comforting to snuggle up to. I hope you’ll also enjoy reading about the remarkable Rachel Kay Shuttleworth and her life in guiding and collecting.
My designs are so often inspired by the natural world around me, and I try to share some of my love of
nature between these pages, as well as the pleasure I take in making delicious (hopefully, not all my
experiments are successful!) and nutritious dishes for my family and friends. This makes the Bustle & Sew Magazine quite unique I think. It may seem an unusual combination – stitching, cooking and the natural world, but it’s one that works for me and, as we’ve now reached our 13th year of publication, it seems that others enjoy it too!
The Bustle & Sew Magazine is the work of just one woman, me(!) Helen Grimes, the founder of and creative force behind the Bustle & Sew bunny. So if you’re expecting a glossy high-street, high-budget publication, stuffed with adverts and promotions, then this probably isn’t the magazine for you. But if you’re looking for quirky, unusual and fun sewing projects, all with my unique style, and enjoy filling your home with beautiful ideas, then you’re sure to love the Bustle & Sew Magazine.
Although stitching is very much at the heart of each edition, I also include lots of other articles and features. Seasonal recipes, craft ideas, poetry corner and much more besides, all celebrating life here in the English countryside that combine to make this a totally unique publication!
Don’t forget, you are free to sell items you personally have made from Bustle & Sew patterns. All the templates are included at full size, so there’s no awkward re-sizing – no fiddling around with photocopiers or hanging around at printing shops. You can start creating straight away! I don’t mind if you personally want to make items to sell from my patterns, but you are not licensed to go into mass production.
