100th Issue Celebrations…. win a year’s subscription

All this week we’re celebrating the 100th issue of the Bustle & Sew Magazine which was published for the very first time in February 2011, such a very long time ago now.  Back then the magazine was a very slender publication, with just a few patterns and sewing-related articles.  Today it’s much more wide-ranging, as we like to share with our readers everything we love about life here in the English countryside – with sewing very much at its heart of course.  We also include not two or three but SIX Bustle & Sew patterns every month – below you can see the contents of just a few issues from 2018….

And, even after so many years, and one hundred(!) issues, our magazine is still advert-free – every single page is full of colourful content for you to enjoy.  And we’re offering the chance for one lucky reader of this blog to receive a year’s subscription absolutely free!

That’s twelve lovely issues – seventy two patterns, twenty-four talented makers, oodles of great recipes, sewing tips, and much more besides, worth $66 – that’s around fifty pounds sterling.

Please note, this is a digital publication and the winner will receive their magazine by email every month.  To enter this draw for a whole year’s subscription to the Bustle & Sew Magazine please leave a comment below, and just for fun tell us what is your favourite season of the year and why.  The winner will be chosen by random selection and will be notified by Wednesday 1 May.  The competition is open to everyone, wherever you may live.

My favorite season has to be Spring as it’s brings so much hope of new beginnings just around the corner. New buds everywhere, lambs in the fields, daffodils dancing in the Spring sunshine (my favourite flower), the smell of fresh cut grass – I could go on. I love your concept and really admire your work. I’ve finally got around to ordering my first kit which I’m really looking forward to arriving soon. Keep up the good work x

Oh, it HAS to be Spring. After months of darkness, cold and whatever else Mother Nature decides to throw at us, I just long for Spring. The first glimpse of the green ‘halo’ of buds bursting just lifts me so much.

My favorite season is fall because it’s the perfect weather to go out with a nice jacket and scarf and watch the kids play while doing some handwork. It’s also the perfect time to cuddle up under a big blanket and watch a movie with hot cocoa!

Autumn. Maybe because I come from Madrid and after a very long, very hot and dry summer, we can star breathing fresh air again and all the sudden, the colours and the light of the city change into something gorgeous. Now I live in England and still think autumn is magic. 🙂

What an amazing please. Congratulations on such an awesome achievement.
I love Autumn. It’s here now in New Zealand. I love it because the temperature is perfect for going long walkies along the river with my two Briard puppies, Bobbin and Hagrid.

Spring is my favourite season.
The weather is warming up.
Trees are growing leaves. Flowers are appearing.
Birds are making nests and feeding in the garden. Butterfly’s and bees are starting to visit our garden.
We can plant flowers and grow some vegetables and mow the lawn.
Easter is coming, and we can spend time together as a family.
Spring is my favourite time of year. 😊

Definitely spring when everything comes to life, the leaves are that special fresh green colour and all the spring flowers are here again – ooh and the cuckoo. Love it.

My favorite season at this point in my life is Spring, mostly because it is means winter is moving out and warm weather is moving in, but the land awakening it’s colors of life and rebirth are beautiful. For me that is huge because of increased physical pain issues winter cold brings. If just going on the colors of the seasons then Autumn has been my favorite all my life. I love the colors, the holidays, and the smells of the earths harvest and it’s settles in for a winters rest.

Reply

Creatively my favourite time of the year is spring. The new colours and the bright sunny days are full of inspiration. However, in myself, I think autumn is my favourite time of year. I love the cold in the air and the smell of bonfires, as well as the stunning colours. Am I allowed two?

My favourite season of the year is definitely Autumn. When the weather is getting colder I can wrap up in snuggly jumpers, under a blanket with a hot chocolate and it’s the best! Dark nights and knowing Christmas is just around the corner always feels magical.

A difficult one as all our seasons bring treasures and wonders but if pushed I am going to have to say Spring. The beautiful fresh signs of life, yellow from daffodils to dandelions and delicate wild primroses. Birds filling the air with their chatter as they busy themselves, longer brighter days giving us the feel of even better things to come, such as glorious days at our beautiful coast.

My favourite season, oh what a difficult question! The celestial blue of a fair summer sky, our beehives buzzing with life, my son home from University and the house filled with teenagers and laughter. Autumn, with that exciting change in the air, memories of new school uniform and pencil cases, woodsmoke, claret-rich berries and the anticipation of elderberry wine. The austere pleasures of winter, putting the garden ‘to bed’, bringing out fur throws and candles, the excitement of Christmas and … maybe ….. snow. And the spring; the first bulbs pushing through the cold earth, the first warmer days, lambs in the fields and the promise of new life and growth all around. Surely, one season alone would lose it’s lustre; each in counterpoint with the others brings all to their full glory, as complementary colours on a wheel or flavours in a memorable meal. The seasons change, yet their precious familiarity remains. I choose them all!

Spring is sprung! A chance to be outside in the garden and watch things grow, nurture new plants and spot young goldfinch families feeding on sunflower hearts. And yet…autumn, the build up to Christmas, lots of long evenings at the kitchen table crafting gifts for my friends and family, exploring new crafts and discovering new skills. Kicking leaves piled up at the side of the road and watching the starlings crazily devouring mealworms. Do I really have to choose?

Autumn. The change from vibrant greens to golden honey and firey reds.
The sound of leaves flutter to the earth and crunch under foot.
The smell of smoke from bonfires on the breeze.
And the warm damp smell of decay from the rotting foliage. That goes back into the earth to keep it rich and fed throuout the cold of winter.. To be reborn again in spring.

In answer to your question..
My favourite season of the year is…
SPRING 🐣🤸🏼‍♂️🗝🔐🌼…
Unlocks memories of Easter’s past .. Being taken shopping for new clothes & new sandals when you were young (am now almost 63) ..
Giving daffodils to Mum for Mothering Sunday/Easter and receiving them from my Children when I became a Mum..(who needs fancy bouquets)..
Children’s faces as they see a new born chick or lamb for the first time..
The colour YELLOW.. makes you smile, bringing thoughts of new beginnings and new Happy Times to remember with your expanding families..
BLUE.. for the carpets of bluebells you see on your country walks …
Finishing the spring day with a contemplative sigh and a smile to the world for the miracles it brings..

My favourite season has to be autumn, ‘of mist and mellow fruitfulness’. I love the changing colour of the leaves on the trees. A little nip in the air, so you can dig out your favourite scarf! The changing quality of the daylight with a little mist… The structural shape of trees without their leaves are gradually revealed as are the ripe hips and berries everywhere. The potential is there even as the year moves into winter.

I Love the colours of spring and always think of the poem :
Spring has sprung, the grass has riz

It is so hard to decide a favorite season. Each one is special in its own way. Spring brings hope and new life and the beauty of flowers, summer the warm sunshine and long days, fall a chill in the air and the most gorgeous tree colors and winter the beauty of fallen snow that reminds us things have to die and rest for new life to begin again. I’ve always said fall or spring was my favorite and I’ll pick Fall this time just because I love getting the sweaters out, watching the leaves change, seeing the animals scurrying to get ready for the cold, enjoying a fire on a crisp, cool evening. If you don’t live in a place that experiences each season – I hope you get a chance to visit a place that does. God gave us much beauty to enjoy! Thanks for the chance to win a subscription.

Spring is the most magical of all the seasons with all the new birth of flora & fauna. There’s nothing to beat the gentle fragrance of the delicate but hardy wild primrose & to see the tiny lambs on their spindly new legs growing stronger in the spring sunshine. Autumn is my favorite season. Has been since I was a child I think b/c after the helter-skelter randomness of summer fun came the return of the school year and routine, new school clothes and reconnecting with classmates. The gradual turning of summer to autumn brings a nostalgic feeling while I savor the crispness of the fall air and smile at leaves turning colors and swirling at my feet. Sweater weather and snuggling up with tea or hot cocoa while preparing for the winter months. There is so much to love about autumn. I only wish it lasted longer.

All the seasons are my favorite! I live where there are 4 distinct seasons and over 300 days of sunshine a year! I enjoy hiking and snowshoeing in the nearby mountains.

Reply

Spring! I live where we have very long and dark winters. The return of warmth and sunshine lift the spirit.Congratulations on such a wonderful achievement!

I love everything about autumn. Especially the leaves changing colour but also the food, the cooler weather allowing me to pull out my favourite cozy jumpers and the start of the build up to Christmas.

Spring because it is a season of promise and the lighter evenings mean I can stitch for longer.

Autumn is my favourite season I love to walk through and kick the piles of leaves which get blown to the side of the path in the wind. Still a kid at heart

I love Winter! Mainly for the quiet that snow brings to my small town. I also love the downtime (crafting time!) that the cooler weather brings!

It’s hard to choose a season because each has a good aspect to it. But I would choose spring because after a long, cold winter the weather is warming up and the flowers are blooming leading to summer. In that case, I also like fall because its the opposite, from warm to cold.
Congratulations on 100 issues!

Fall is my favorite time of the year. It is such a relief from the long hot summer. I love the fall colors.
My favorite choices for quilting are paper piecing and applique.

I love Autumn. First off, it has two names, Fall and Autumn so that’s a plus for variety’s sake. Plus I just love the idea of things changing and it’s still warm enough to do things outside and there is an extra challenge of planting things in the Fall that will make it through the Winter. I love watching the animals prepare for winter, storing things up, scurrying around. I like to see the people to as they get more and more excited for the holidays. Plus, my birthday is in that season. They say people’s favorite season is usually the one they’re born in (or on the cusp of)…I always wonder if that’s true. My second runner up would be Spring…love the blooming things. Birds and insects darting about. Wow! 100 issues so fantastic for you, for US that get to enjoy it! Thanks for having such a remarkable publication!

Congratulations on your 100th issue. My favorite season is rainy season. I just love the rain, smell of the soil, the sound. Best time to do sewing and embroidery work.

I love the Fall. Love the Fall colors plus I love that I can run the oven & make the house full of delicious smells.

Reply

Autumn is my favorite season. The colors are gorgeous & the temperature is my reward for surviving another Season of Hibernation (a/k/a Summer).

Reply

Normally I would say spring is my favorite season because of the beautiful days. Summer is also my favorite because of the freedom it offers. I love fall because it offers the chance to open the house again and is a break from the oppressive heat. Winter is great with all of its festivities and fun. So which IS my favorite season? 🤷🏻‍♀️😁

Reply

Autumn because it is a time to slow down and settle in new routines and new beginnings.

My favorite and the best season of the year has to be Autumn! No other season engages the senses more like Autumn. From the spectacular colors of the trees, gourds, flowers and pumpkins and the scents of the leaves burning or on the damp ground and the cooking scents and tastes of the special foods of the season to the happy sounds of children and grownups alike enjoying Halloween and other fall activities, Autumn has it all!

My favorite season is summer. I finally get outside to enjoy the warm weather, have a glass of wine and start to plant my flower gardens, after “hibernating” during the winter.

I am one of just a few family members here in the US. Most of them live in Scotland and England. Because of this I LOVE things British….and your magazine fits into my life so beautifully..I love Autumn best, first as I am not a heat-lover, and the cooler days let me spend more time outdoors, and lots more things inside also.

I love Fall, with all the beautiful colors and the cool weather after what is usually a long, hot Summer here in Iowa.

whilst I love the warm sunshine and long sunny days of Summer, my favourite season is winter because I can lock myself away in my sewing room for days on end and hide from the cold wet weather outside without feeling guilty about not being outside doing other things 🙂

“ To everything there is a season…”. Every season is special to me, but if I really had to pick it would be Spring. Every Spring I am amazed by all the beautiful trees that bloom and the flowers that pop up everywhere. It is truly a magical time of year. 💐

Aaaah! WINTER has to be my favourite. Crisp cold mornings that make your cheeks tingle. Frost across the garden outlining sleeping plants and the occasional fall of snow. But, best of all, more opportunity to sit in front of a roaring fire and sew!

Reply

I love the long hot days of summer! We spend quite a lot of time hiking and visiting the lakes around us. Or on quieter days, we take some books outside and soak up the sunshine! The gorgeousness of summer is what gets me the through the gloomy months of February and March in Michigan.

Spring is my season – for hope, change of clocks for lighter days, new shoots of colour after a grey winter and warmth seeping into your bones.

My favourite season is Autumn. After a hot humid summer here in Queensland (Australia) Autumn brings cooler temperatures, a last burst of growth in the garden and the antics of all the birds preparing to build nests – a joy to sit on the verandah and watch. It’s the time when I can finally get back comfortably into hand sewing and crafting knowing there are many creative months till summer’s lethargy returns !

I love/hate autumn. Love it because the leaves on the maple tree just outside my door turn the most beautiful colours of red and orange, that I try to capture in needle work. Hate it because then all the leaves fall on the ground and need a lot of work to take up.

It is so hard to choose a favourite season as all are wonderful. My most favourite time of the year here on the south coast of Western Australia is probably late autumn after the rains have started, washing the forest clean and making the leaves sparkle, but before the cold sets in. The days are often balming and clear and just wonderful for getting out with the camera to take photos from which I then embroider scenes. That means, now is my favourite time of year.

Reply

My favorite season is SPRING because that’s when the plants and trees awaken. Winter is a depressing time for me here in New York and the Springtime brings me back to life!

Strong seasonal changes whatever they are, are all exciting but noticeably late August early September has the biggest impact and ALWAYS the little mouse comes out in me getting ready for winter, gathering, harvesting, storing. When I take a practical look at why I should feel like this in todays world it makes no sense really but I soon banish those thoughts and run with my natural instincts, I hope it never stops being fun (now 54 I think perhaps its ingrained.) Oh and I’m busy passing it on to my young grandsons 🙂

Such a lovely and generous thing to do.
In Germany where I grew up my favourite season used to be winter, it’s fresh and cold. There’s lots and candles everywhere. It smells like baking cookies and everything is a bit quieter and a bit slower. My favourite time was when the first snow was falling.
In Australia on the east coast where I live now my favourite season is the time after summer, when the humidity goes away one night and you wake up with fresh quiet air. The sun is out still and it’s never really freezing cold. Although the houses feel much colder because they’re built for summer. A lot of flowers and trees bloom around that time with the last tropical rain showers and the wild life go crazy for them. Perfect time to get out and craft in nature. Congratulations on your achievement, you’re going amazing work.

Good morning – fall is my favorite season! Pumpkins in the “patch” and time around the fire pit are just a few of my favorite fall things.
Thanks for the give away and wishing all a wonderful day.

I love Spring because of all the lovely colours and beautiful flowers blooming, but Summer is my favourite season as I love the sun, it makes me happy, watching my daughter play in the garden whilst I can sit and craft away. Being a single disabled Mum can be difficult, but at least it has some benefits I guess.
I also like Autumn, all the different colours from the leaves on the trees.
I know for sure that Winter is my least favourite!!!
