In the March issue of Bustle & Sew Magazine we were delighted to feature the lovely Betty Armitage from Make it Betty. Based in Manchester, England, Betty stitches all her hoops by hand and can often be found covered in embroidery thread with several projects on the go!
We asked Betty where she finds her inspiration. She told us…
“I find a lot of inspiration from Instagram with the hashtags #modernembroiderymovement and #xstitchersofinstagram always full of beautiful and unusual ideas. I also like to text myself funny phrases I overhear or read and store them all in my phone for when I’m ready to sit down for a stitchy evening. Machine embroidery has also been a huge hit on the high street over the past few months, but I don’t think it beats the beauty of hand stitching.”
We also asked Betty to tell us a little bit more about her ‘Sketch it Stitch it’ books (which we love!). She told us…
“The Sketch it Stitch it books are here to help you to design your own crafty patterns, whether they’re cross stitch, crochet or even quilting – it’s totally up to you! Each A5 book is 48pp (including covers) with 100% recycled cardstock covers and the inside pages are covered with a graph paper print, containing 10×10 squares to an inch, providing the perfect backdrop for sketching out your own designs.
The inside front cover boasts a handy page of letters, numbers and motif patterns to get you started, and there’s even a handy note page on the inside back cover for your creative musings. There are two colour options, blue and pink to choose from and they’re just the right size for sketching on the go!”
You can find Betty on Etsy, as well as Facebook and Instagram – do go and say hello!
