It’s always lovely to return home and pick up the threads of my Somerset life after spending time away – but what an enjoyable holiday we had on the beautiful Greek island of Corfu. We swam in the warm waters surrounding the island, climbed to little hilltop villages, admired the amazing sunsets and I even found a little time for some Christmas stitching! (wip in the centre above – some cute napkins for the October magazine).
Our lovely housesitter Cara took very good care of our furry and feathered family members while we were away, in fact probably rather too good care in Alfie’s case as he currently resembles a rather overstuffed sausage in shape almost certainly having taken advantage of Cara’s good nature to win himself rather too many treats! He too will be going on a post-holiday diet!
We returned home to a very autumnal garden and landscape. There were some cold nights while we were away and my squash and pumpkin plants had suffered badly. I spent yesterday clearing the beds and plan to make some lovely roasted squash soup in the very near future. The pumpkins are earmarked for my grandchildren Freddie and Florence at Halloween, though they are rather strange shapes! The embroidery in the centre is another wip for the October magazine.
Regular readers will know that I include a vintage Bustle & Sew pattern in every issue, and in the October Magazine you’ll find my little bear in a woolly pompom hat (above) along with very detailed instructions for stitching his fur. I can hardly believe this pattern is nearly nine years old and I think he definitely deserves to be included in the magazine as the nights grow longer (and more chilly too!)
I’ll be back later this week with a peep inside the covers of the October magazine that will be published on Thursday 2 October
