Phew, that was most definitely the week that was. I feel that we all need a bit of a break from serious world events from time to time which is why I very rarely (almost never!) mention politics. But today must be an exception as I consider the latest developments affecting Bustle & Sew.
I am, of course, referring to the US Trade Tariffs that came into force at midnight last night. This means that UK imports to the US are now subject to 10% tariffs. I don’t want to discuss the rights and wrongs of these tariffs as I’m sure everyone has their own opinions. What I do want to do is to minimise their impact for Bustle & Sew customers, at least for as long as I am able.
But first, please be reassured that the tariffs do not currently apply to digital goods, so the cost of magazine subscriptions and individual patterns whether purchased from my own website or through Etsy will remain unchanged.
I don’t sell many physical products, and currently am offering just two kits. Firstly my Embroidered Pear Pin Cushion (above) and also the Wheel of the Year printed panel and instruction booklet. Because these are physical products posted to the US they are now subject to a 10% tariff.
However, for the moment at least, Bustle & Sew will absorb the cost of this tariff on these items, so I have reduced their price on Etsy by 10% for all customers, not just those in the US. I’m not sure how long I’m going to be able to continue doing this, but will simply have to monitor the situation as it develops.
I’ve also been busy with my Twelve Days of Christmas designs, and when they’re ready, will also adjust their pricing to take account of tariffs. I’ve received a number of queries about a digital pattern for the Twelve Days, and yes, these designs will also be available to download.
As I said, I can’t be certain how long Bustle & Sew will be able to absorb the additional costs, but I will endeavour to do so for as long as possible.
