DevonBear Designs do handbags – and a free pattern for you!!

Or at least will do very soon. DevonBear Designs is my site where I offer some of my creations for sale. My paper bunting is particularly popular, whilst cushions, quilts and snuggly animals also find favour with my lovely customers. Whilst I’ve always offered all kinds of bagsuntil this moment I’ve never had handbags. But now ….. here is the first quick snap of my latest creation … world premiere of the very first DevonBear handbag – the Gorgeous Bunny Bag!!

The Gorgeous Bunny Bag is fashioned from my favourite vintage linen, lined with a Cath Kidston floral print and has a magnetic catch to keep the contents safe.

To create the design I scanned another of my vintage embroidery transfers and created an applique effect for the bunnies using Paintshop. Then I saved the design before deleting all the flowers and other details from around the bunnies.

Mirror image for printing – onto transfer paper and then the fabric via my trusty heat press. I kept a copy of the design with all the details for reference and drew the flowers onto the bag using a light-fade fabric pen before embroidering using chain stitch, frenchknots and simple running stitch. Ric rac braid formed a neat frame for the design as well as giving the bag that vintage feel, then all that was left to do was to add a little red heart-shaped button between the two bunnies.

The bag itself is a simple box shape, but you could make this project using any shaped bag you like. If you’d like a copy of the pdf file with the two images -with and without the embroidery details, then please just email me on [email protected] and I’ll be happy to send it to you.

My own Gorgeous Bunny Bag will be appearing on DevonBear Designs as soon as I’m able to take some decent photos … until then…. happy sewing everyone!
