Pea pod pin cushion giveaway!

Well that was a lot of fuss about nothing – for us here at Oakhill anyway! The Newfies were very excited when the snow began to fall and insisted on heading out into the garden for the full experience.  I was only able to coax them inside with the promise of a lovely walk in the snow the next day.  We had a lovely walk … but the promised deep cover of snow failed to materialise …..

walk 01

Here they are with two of their best friends, Merlin and Bentley the springer spaniels enjoying their stroll around the village playing fields.  Daisy tried very hard to demonstrate how to roll in what snow there was, but Merlin doesn’t seem to be at all impressed with her antics ….

walk 02

And that was it!  The snow has all gone now, though it’s absolutely freezing.  I think the cold weather has helped keep my Christmas wreath looking nice.  I took it down on Twelfth Night, but couldn’t bring myself to compost it, it’s still far too pretty ….

So it’s sitting on an upturned zinc planter by the back door where I can enjoy it for just a little longer.  But I’m rambling again … this post was supposed to simply announce our latest giveaway.

One of the patterns in the current Bustle & Sew Magazine is the Pea Pod Pin Cushion.  I made two samples which I thought would make nice prizes  …..

peapodgiveaway

And so for your chance to win one of these pin cushions please just leave a comment below.  It would be great if,  just for fun,  you could  tell us  what is your favourite vegetable!  The giveaway is of course free to enter and I will post your pin cushion anywhere in the world.  The winner will be chosen by random selection and the giveaway closes at midnight on Monday 16th January.

Good luck everyone!

Giveaway is now closed – thanks so much to everyone who entered.

Thank you for the giveaway!! My favorite vegetable is broccoli! ☺️ Peas are a very close second!

Mine would have to be squash – any sort from pumpkin to butternut – delicious roasted, mashed or souped, and can turn up as dessert! I always like peas – I think it’s a childhood thing from the A.A.Milne eating peas with honey as it sticks them to the knife!

My absolute favorite is broccoli! I am a citrus freak and my only toppings on the yummy green stuff is a squeeze of lemon and a light sprinkle of lemon.

Daisy and Ben would have enjoyed more snow. One good thing about the cold weather is that it does keep some things looking fresh such as your wreath. Living in a cold climate we’re always trying find good things about the cold.
Your pea pod pincushions are so cute.

I suppose my favorite veggie must be onions as I put them in or on nearly everything!

My pup loved playing in the snow when we lived in the East Coast in Rhode Island but alas we now live in the desert on the West Coast in Southern California. It’ll be fun to take him to visit the local mountains with him one day to revisit snow! He does prefer the cold temps regardless of not having the snow.

My favorite vegetable has always been green beans!

Oh how cute! Growing up, I hated veggies and would only eat green beans. Now that I am way older, I have come to appreciate many veggies. It’s hard to pick just one! I guess, when I really think about it, cauliflower is my favorite. I don’t get it much (hubby hates it) but when I can get it, I enjoy it!

Freshly picked garden peas. I can smell ’em!
Especially those ones you have made.

Definitely broccoli. The only way I like peas, is in this cute pincushion! My mother used to serve us peas from the can…boiled until they were gray and mushy. Ugh. One evening, not being able to leave the table until my peas were gone, I lined them up beneath my plate..then escaped. When my mother picked up my plate, there was a circle of peas on the table! She laughed so hard, I didn’t have to eat them..at least not that time. ?

These peas would look so cute in kitchens. My favorite is peas in their pods. Thanks for the giveaway!

My favorite ‘veggie’ is the tomato. Botannically it is a fruit, of course, but the US Supreme Court designated it a vegetable years and years ago and we on this side of the Pond are used to thinking of it as that. Big Grin.

If not tomatoes, would have to be broccoli.

🙂 Linda

I love almost all vegetables, but if I’m going to be game and stick to the ‘green’ variety, my choice comes down to string beans and spring greens.
This is most definitely NOT an attempt at sympathy, but I have been hospitalised since December 1st LAST YEAR (*indignant cough*) and following my surgery on January 5th, have been informed that the only two veggies I may never be able to eat again are asparagus (yum) and string beans (Ah me! The tragedy!!!;)

This has led me to reflect a little on life; I’m one of the handful of weirdos who don’t like chocolate or ice-cream, which I’d happily forgo forever. My point though, dear things, is that i STILL have spring greens, together with (probably) many varieties of vegetables that I am yet to try out and also to inflict on my baby grandchildren, as they continue to grow – mwah-ha-ha! (Please excuse my evil outburst but I know some of you are with me on that point;)

Vegetables are varied, wonderful and amazing things that help to keep us cooking or eating them raw with innovation and gusto.
My vote therefore goes to each and every one of them, but if you are feeling magnanimous, you could pop in an extra vote for Spring greens. (Extra votes at this stage are permissible for me alone, of course, as (a) the boost will help me feel better and the poor nurses REALLY deserve to see the back of me and (b) what in goodness am I still stuck in here for if I can’t get preferential treatment somewhere?!!

Thanks for encouraging my return to embroidery Helen; I take it out and work away at my cup of daisies whenever I’m feeling up to it. (String beans have lovely flowers too, as I’m sure you know Helen (subtle hint;)Enjoy good health and please keep your fingers crossed that it doesn’t snow here in the Scottish Highlands, just as our poor gold begin to lamb.

With very best wishes and a wonderful 2017 to all of you out there.
Debs xx

PS That should have read as ´ewes’, not ´gold’ in relation to lambing. Crikey, they’re heavy enough in late pregnancy as things stand! x

My first thought upon seeing your adorable pin cushion was of my three grandchildren. I think of them like 3 peas in a pod! I love so many vegetables but was just diagnosed with a stomach paralysis which precludes me from eating my favorite, green beans, so I will vote for the potato which is so very versatile and easily digestible too! Thanks so much for your beautiful inspiration and chance of winning.
