Simply Aprons – A Giveaway for You … and excitement in the village!!

I was delighted to receive a lovely new book in the post last week “Simply Aprons” by Nathalie Mornu. Published by Lark Crafts, it’s one of their “Simply” series – and is exactly what it says on the cover – a slim volume with 12 lovely apron projects to create.

As usual with Lark Crafts’ publications, the book is very clearly laid out and the instructions are nice and straightforward.  The aprons have wonderful names ….”Amoeba, Mango Tango and Twirl, Girl!” are just a few. (That’s Mango Tango below – it’s a very pretty shape – the top is cut on the grain, whilst the skirt is on the bias, so giving a lovely drapey effect).

I liked all 12 projects and, following the great apple harvest in my garden, (remember the Appley Dappley applique?) was particularly taken with the fabric used for this design ….

And so I’d like to share this little book with you. I have one brand new copy to give away … just leave your comment below to enter.  Just for fun – please also tell us what your favourite fruit is and why?  You have until midnight BST on Wednesday 21 September to leave  your comment and I’ll announce the winner shortly afterwards.  I will post overseas.
And the excitement (expect you thought I’d forgotten – as if!).   Well … you might not think the above picture is very exciting – it’s true, it’s hard to tell who is under all that makeup and the dark clothes – let me show you a more familiar incarnation ….
Yes … it’s Johnny Depp!! And he was staying in Chillington – our village!! Just down the road!! Filming for his latest movie on one of our local beaches – Mattiscombe Sands, near to Start Point. Excitement indeed!! Sadly I did not bump into him in the post office while queuing for the morning paper, and he was not seen at the quiz night either.

Ben in particular had hoped to spot him, as his kennel name is Mileoak Captain Jack -and as you can see from the image above, he too feels he has star quality!!  So there would have been an instant bond between them(!)

Ah well… never mind… back to my stitching.  Don’t forget to enter the giveaway by leaving your comment – I’m looking forward to reading them all!

Hi Helen!

What excitement – now it feels like we all met Johnny Depp!!
Right now, I must say apples and plums are my favourite fruits – come tomorrow night, plums might reign the throne all by themselves, as I'm making apple jam and apple jelly the whole week-end.. or until I've run out of jars 🙂

As for favorite aprons – I go for the ones that cover as much as possible… I'm not the tidiest of cooks!

Hi Hellen! My favourite fruit are strawberries – because of their scent, colour and taste. I like them solo, in cakes, in milk shakes, even as z ligueur. Hugs from Poland Anna

Oh dear, how do I choose LOL! At the opposite end of the country to you (here in the NE of Scotland) we have growing in our garden raspberries, strawberries, plums, apples, redcurrants and blackcurrants. I think it will have to be raspberries, as I make about 20 jars of raspberry jam each year, which does us for the full year and some of our neighbours as well!! And being a messy cook (especially where jam is concerned LOL!)I do get through a few aprons …… !

Oh, Helen, I love the idea of vintage fabric aprons. It really is unsettling to realize that my era is considered vintage. Greeting from the US (Texas), where we still wear aprons when we cook. I love all fruits, but am finding cranberries to be my favorite right now, as they are useful in just about every dish I put together. Thanks so much for your site and blog – always a pleasure to visit.

I was showing your FLICKR pics to my husband and he says you "are very gifted"! He said he esp likes the bear hanging on the clothesline and would like to hang it in his Office (he is an engineer!):-> I agree with him, your designs and stitching are very whimsical and beautiful. I am wondering where you get your beautiful tan linen?
My favorite fruit is watermelon! Thanks for the chance to win!

How exciting to have the movie filmed near you.I hope you get to go and watch some of it being filmed. Then it would be fun to look for the scenes you recognize when the movie comes out. The aprons look so cute.
My favorite fruit is the apple. There are so many different kinds and they bake so well too.

Johnny Depp = swoon!!! My favourite fruit are apples because they are so versatile and there are so many varieties. They can go in sweet and savoury dishes, they can be eaten cooked or raw, they can be preserved into jams and chutneys and dried apple rings, they can be juiced and served hot or cold. As you can see – I love apples! x

My, you do lead an enviable life! Surrounded by sewing items and handsome men, what more could one ask? And what a terrific giveaway on aprons! I would love to have this in my library–oh, the gifts to be made. It's hard to decide, but I guess raspberries are my favorite fruit, followed by the rest of the berry groups! Thanks for this opportunity!!!

I love purple concord grapes_ i am not sure why – I just love the juicy flavor that is not too sweet and not too tart. They have a very limited season but I love them when you can buy them in the fall. Cherries would run a very close second and then almost any kind of berry( raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, blackberry and saskatoons)
THe apron book looks like fun- I am sure your winner is going to love it when their name is chosen.
Warmest regards from Western Canada,
Anna

What a lovely giveaway and I love the cute little apron with apples on it, so fun! My favorite fruit would of course have to be strawberries. Strawberries are my instant memories of summer days, picking the strawberries off the plant and straight into your mouth. They're warm, juicy and sweet! Yum!

Wow Johnny Depp! He filmed at a location not far from us a few years ago and we too were very disappointed not to see him… anywhere! Love the look of the book and my favourite fruit is probably pink grapefruit – i forgot about them for quite a few years but got a sudden hankering for them when i was pregnant a couple of years ago and haven't looked back!

Hi Helen, I would love a chance to win such a delightful book. Even better, I would love to visit you and your village, Johnny Depp or not (although he is very drool-worthy!). My favorite fruit is peaches, because I believe their delightful explosion of taste is the embodiment of summer. Big hugs, Cathy K

I love the apple print fabric shown, too. My favorite fruit is apricots! I love them in any form and my absolute favorite fruit pie is apricot, too. Cara

the book looks fantastic! i collect vintage aprons, and keep saying that i'm going to develop patterns of my favourites, but of course i never get around to it!

my favourite fruit is saskatoon berries, which only grow in certain areas, so no one ever knows what i'm talking about! they look like a reddish purple blueberry, and have a distinct flavour of their own. they grow in the canadian prairies, so i grew up with them, and miss them sorely living on the west coast. there's a domestic version, which is what you find most often now, in gardens and fruit farms, but i ran across a patch of wild ones a few summers ago…. oooh, they were so good! my second favourite fruit is strawberries, preferably the smaller, sweeter locally grown ones (the strawberries from california are so bland!)

The aprons look like so much fun! I would have to name strawberries as my favorite fruit – YUM!

Hope I'm not too late to get in on the drawing (just got my e-mails & newsletter!)…I'm a sap when it comes to aprons…just LOVE 'em! My favorite fruit? That's tough, because I love so many, but…if I have to pick just one…it would be the apple – truly a perfect fruit & to me says AUTUMN!
NOT telling my girlfriend that JD was in your village…she'll swim the ocean to get a glimpse of him! *LOL*
