Etsy Christmas Sale and feathery marauders!

It’s high, high summer here at Bustle & Sew HQ, the sun is shining and the birds are singing.  We’re off to an outdoor concert tonight and for once the weather forecast is good so we won’t be shivering in the typically English rain!

There’s lots going on in the garden at the moment as well. I have harvested my onions (a bumper crop this year), and I’m kept busy picking peas, beans and lettuces for the table.  Sadly the hens have decided to scratch up my baby carrots and chard, so I’m going to have to plant new seeds – and also try to find a way to protect them from the badly behaved feather-covered agents of destruction!  The Engineer is fiercely defending his greenhouse from the mischievous marauders, while trying to keep up with deadheading his sweet peas too!

July of course, brings the holiday season which reaches its height when the schools finish towards the end of the month.  The July Magazine has a coastal and sailing theme..

Which fitted well with our visit to the little harbour town of Watchet last weekend. We we took Freddie and Florence to the Watchet Boat Museum where they were able to try their hands at rope making….

And the method used was was very reminiscent of how I twist thread or yarn to make a cord – though on a much larger scale of course. (the longest traditional ropewalk in England is 1/4 mile in length!) Although the July Magazine has articles on sail making, sailors’ wool pictures and gansy knitwear, I hadn’t thought to research and include an article on rope making this time round – perhaps one to include in my final July issue next year!

And though it is still summer, and thoughts of picnics, beach trips and afternoons in the garden are very much at the fronts of our minds, while Christmas seems a very long way off, we all know that festive projects have a habit of creeping up on us sooner than expected! That’s why the July magazine also includes my very first Christmas pattern of the year, the delightful Carol Singing Bunny. Wrapped up warmly and ready to spread seasonal cheer, this charming little character is the perfect way to get a head start on your festive stitching while the summer sun still shines.

And, as this is the month all well-organised stitchers begin their Christmas projects, all Christmas patterns in the Bustle & Sew Etsy store are reduced by 25% for the next week – great for a head start! You don’t need a code, the reduced prices are already shown.
