Meet the Maker: Apple White Handmade

Before I tell you about the lovely and very talented Dana of Apple White Handmade who features in the June issue of the Bustle & Sew Magazine, I must take the time to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all your sympathy and best wishes for poor Daisy, whether by email, Instagram, comments on this blog or on Facebook.  I feel so grateful that Bustle & Sew has brought me into contact with such kind and caring people.

And there is some good news – Daisy is being allowed home tonight.  I’ll be off to collect her – and her suitcase full of medication – in half an hour or so.  I only live about 15 minutes from the vets, so if there is another crisis in the night I can rush her back in very quickly indeed.  We all feel she’ll be happier with her family, and Ben will be so pleased to see her – he has been moping sadly on his bed all day (even though he thinks she’s a pest, he loves her very much really).  But no silly newfie games like the one above for a while I’m afraid.  The next few days will be critical and I’ll be sure to keep everyone updated.

On to happier things – and this month I’d like to introduce you to Apple White Handmade, the creation of Dana Hale-Kalatsky.  Inspired by her children, Dana creates lovely textile items from her home in Arizona, which she then offers for sale in her Etsy Shop

I absolutely love the first aid pouch – perfect for taking on holiday for those little essentials – plasters, mozzie cream etc, such a simple but really effective design.  Perhaps I should invest in one to keep all Daisy’s tablets and medicine safely in one place!  Dana told us her all-time best seller was her little tooth fairy house pillow  which she created from a picture her daughter Emme made of their house.  And her advice for the new small-business owner?

“Start small, DIY is key! Learn as you go – if you try to figure it all out before you start you may never tart. Just go for it, the rest will fall into place. Have fun and be yourself, people want to see new and unique so don’t worry about trying to be like someone else. There’s only one you!”

Thanks so much Dana for being in the Bustle & Sew Magazine.  And if you’d like to see more from Apple White Handmade, then do pop over to her Etsy Shop or head across to Facebook and say hello!
