I decided this was the week to top up my log store ready for the colder weather (which I hope will be a very long time coming!). Seduced by the promise of cheap summer prices for seasoned logs I ordered a tonne to be delivered to Coombe Leigh yesterday. The delivery was delayed by the summer traffic and, sadly for Ben, arrived just as we would normally have been setting out for our evening walk …
He was immediately totally fed up and slumped dejectedly in front of the frighteningly large pile of wood. Daisy, on the other hand, decided to be “helpful”
Though at her speed I would still have been stacking logs at midnight! Especially as she quickly became distracted ….
By her big brother in playful mood … who promptly stole the piece of wood she had been carrying so proudly!
Eventually however, with absolutely no help whatsoever from the furry pair, the pile of logs disappeared…..
And my log store is satisfyingly full ….
We shall be nice and toasty this winter! I am sorry to say that no, Ben didn’t get his evening walk yesterday as I was all worn out after moving those logs – but he had an extra-nice one today. And last night, while resting from my exertions I finished off my final pattern for the July issue of the Bustle & Sew Magazine ….
Guardsman George! The first ever rag doll from Bustle & Sew – and the first of a new collection of moppet (old English word for doll) designs coming over the next few months ….
Guardsman George has a smart red tunic, limbs that bend, a smiley face and his medal says “H” for “Hero”. I had been thinking hard for some time about a pattern to mark the birth of the Royal baby due next month. You may perhaps remember that for the wedding of the Duke & Duchess of Cambridge I created a Rosie & Bear pattern – with Bear dressed up in a Guardsman’s tunic & busby …
So the idea of a little Guardsman Moppet came to me – a lovely gift for a boy or girl – whether royal or not! The pattern for Guardsman George will be in the July issue of the Bustle & Sew Magazine published next week – and I’ll be back with a preview of all the contents at the weekend. Until then I’ll leave you with a sneak peek of the cover ..

That first picture of Ben is wonderful, dogs are so good at showing how fed up they are aren’t they? And what a wonderful log pile, very satisfying.
The Guardsman is wonderful! And your dogs are so nice and cute :)))
Really looking forward to the July issue of the mag. Ben’s expression in your photo is priceless, talk about fed up. LOL They look such a laid back breed, would that be right, or am I mistaken? ;0
Hi Kathleen – yes very laid back indeed! xx
