Cold on the beach today

by Helen on January 28, 2014

Brrr .. it was a bit chilly here this morning!  Yes, I know that it’s not really cold here – certainly when compared to the Arctic temperatures the USA has been enduring – but we hardly ever even get a frost down here in Devon, so we’re a bit wussy about the cold.  On days like today it’s good to linger in bed just a little while longer, especially when I’m working on such a pretty project ….

… little bunny Valentines – from the same template I used for the projects in this month’s Bustle & Sew Magazine

My little bunny Valentines are destined for a giveaway – coming very soon to this blog and the Bustle & Sew Facebook page …watch out for details!  But I’m never allowed to linger in bed for very long – the Newfies are always keen to get out, especially as I’d promised them that we’d go to the beach today.  It was very cold at Lannacombe, though nice and sunny and we had the beach to ourselves ….

Rosie loves Lannacombe beach, so she was very much in my thoughts as I walked with the dogs – and then I realised …..

Only 5 months until her wedding day!! Eeeek!! There’s still so much to plan and do – I simply don’t know where the time is running away to!

Too much of this!

by Helen on January 16, 2014

There’s been rather too much of this lately …..

And not enough of this ….

Stitches out tomorrow and then hopefully things will begin to return to normal – we’ve missed our time on the beach!

What a lovely weekend!

by Helen on September 29, 2013

Goodness, what a whirlwind weekend …. so much laughter and fun – and so much accomplished too!  I simply don’t know where the time has gone – it’s a good thing that magazine publication day was last week as, until now, I haven’t so much as even looked at my laptop all weekend!

On Saturday Rosie and I visited the Vintage Fairs at Guildhall – there was a special wedding area as well as the main fair.  Such a lovely morning.  So much free cake! Can you see the chocolate cupcakes below ….

Yes, the little mini, incredibly chocolatey ones in the bottom left hand corner with glitter.  They were for sampling.  Oh yes.  It would have been so rude to refuse. And so we didn’t.  They tasted absolutely scrumptious.  The lady’s details went into Rosie’s bag for future reference, so I’m sorry I can’t tell you the name of her company as Rosie’s bag has now returned home with her.  But if anyone does want to know, then please do contact me and I’ll ask Rosie to send on the details.

We also discovered an extremely talented and clever magician who did the most amazing things with a pack of playing cards – I so wish that I’d been able to take a picture of the incredulous expression on Rosie’s face when the cards in her hand magically transformed into quite different cards….

Wedding Fair

And at intervals for the rest of the day she was heard to mutter “How did he do that?  How did he do that? How did he do that”  So the very clever magician has been booked for the wedding party and we’re hoping that family and friends will be just as amazed and entertained as we were.

Making Teacup Candles

Then today we started on our vintage teacup candle project.  We have found some really pretty cups and, after consulting Martha Stewart’s tutorial, we felt ready to begin …..

teacupcandlesfair 026After some very technical manoeuvring with tape, wicks and lolly sticks (invaluable help from Dan here) and lots of juggling with hot wax and old pyrex bowls, we felt very pleased with the results ….

Then, as the newfies had been very good and patient while we worked, we all headed off to Lannacombe beach where there was paddling…

Lannacombe Beach High Tide

Lots and lots of sand …..

Lannacombe Beach

And silly games to play with seaweed ….

What a lovely weekend!

Ooooooh …… I’m so excited!!

by Helen on May 29, 2013

Rosie and her boyfriend Dan came to visit me at the weekend.  On Sunday Dan had planned a special trip for just the two of them to their very favourite beach in all the world .. Lannacombe…..

Lannacombe Beach

He asked me to pack a special picnic … and my Great British picnic blanket had its first outing …..

Rosie & Dan

whilst the newfies and I waited excitedly, impatiently and expectantly at home …..

Rosie & Dan

Because we knew that Dan planned to ask a very special question.  We were certain we knew what Rosie’s answer would be – and we were right!

Rosie & Dan

Yes, they became engaged on the beach at Lannacombe – so romantic!  And now we are beginning to plan a seaside wedding……

Rosie & Dan

I’m so happy for them both!

Rosie and her fiance Dan will be back again soon to  start checking out local venues.  Daisy (who simply had to push herself into some of the engagement photos) would love to be a flower-girl, but as we are all of the opinion that she could not be trusted to behave herself on the day, I think this is a definite NO!  But I’m sure she’ll enjoy seeing lots of Rosie during the planning and preparation period as will I …… ooooh … I’m so excited!!
